According to data from CGIL1 Toscana, in 2023 there were 30240 migrant residents in the Province of Siena, a territory that is larger than the city of Siena itself as it includes, but is not limited to, the Municipality of Siena. More specifically, the Province of Siena counts 35 municipalities in total.
Of these 30240 migrant residents, 20541 are non-European migrants. Among them, 62.3% are long-term residents (permanent), while the remaining 37.7% are short-term residents (temporary) as shown by the bar chart below. Short-term migrants are further categorized according to their status or type of permit held, including family reunification, employment, refugees2, asylum seekers, and other legal grounds.
