The mural was painted by Nino Florenzano and its symbolizes the collective identity, the deep connection between the community of Policastro Bussentino, in Salerno and its history. The work is a public work art: the manifesto of sociality and historical memory, which reflects a narrative tied to the roots of the area and the concept of art as a tool for social cohesion. The title recalls historical or legendary events in Policastro, evoking the themes of passage, movement and the protection of the one’s land. “The night of the escape” represents a huge anthropomorphic building, metaphorically depicting the silenced voices of dissidents and the oppression of an impregnable prison. The walled-up mouth is the central element, symbolizing the denial of freedom and the need to reflect on the right to freedom of speech. The work is focuses on the need to ask for help and make one’s voice heard, against repression.
