According to data from CGIL1 Toscana, in 2024 there were 30660 migrant residents in the Province of Siena, a territory that is larger than the city of Siena itself as it includes, but is not limited to, the Municipality of Siena. More specifically, the Province of Siena counts 35 municipalities in total.
Of these 30660 migrant residents, 20994 are non-European migrants. Among them, 56.4% are long-term residents (permanent), while the remaining 43.6% are short-term residents (temporary) as shown by the bar chart below. Short-term migrants are further categorized according to their status or type of permit held, including family reunification, employment, refugees2, asylum seekers, and other legal grounds.

The data displayed in the bar chart are also listed in the table below, in percentage:

Additional information
Please note that in Italy:
- A long-term residence permit is for individuals with a stable and long-standing residence in Italy and provides greater security and rights (usually >5 years, up to 10).
- A temporary residence permit is for short-term situations, depends on individual needs (such as work, study, etc.), and must be renewed periodically.
- Compared to the previous year (2023), the category “Other legal grounds” now includes also the category “Unspecified” which results in a percentage increase of the former.
